HELP PLEASE - After Upgrade from 3.099 to 4x system crashed. RAID gone.

  • Hi Guys. I am desperate. I need help and thank you upfront to anyone who can point me towards a solution.

I was running on 3.0.99 and had a RAID6 running. Then I upgraded to Version 4 today (yes I checked that all my plugins from 3 were available in 4) and after the upgrade, I can access the GUI but I get the following error message right away. After clicking it away a couple of times I can click around the GUI but its mostly empty. Most shockingly my RAID seems to be gone as well! PLEASE help. Anyone. Can anyone kindly point me towards a solution or how to re-install my system without losing my RAID data?

  • Yes, correct. I updated / upgraded with the RAID connected.

I am reading in some other posts that when upgrades failed, that people physically disconnect the RAID drives and then re-install OMV on the OS drive. Afterwards they re-connect the RAID drives and re-initiate it. Do you think its advisable to do in this situation?

What do you make of the error code I posted initially at the beginning? Is there any hint in there what could be causing my problems?

    Once again - THANK YOU!

  • There is also a tip in another post to run:

    apt-get --reinstall install openmediavault

to re-install the OMV package. Does that work? Shall I disconnect the RAID drives for that before too?

  • Ok. I did what you suggested. The RAID seems to be active again, BUT it says now under State: "Clean, degraded". Why degraded?

Unfortunately this hasn't stopped the OMV error messages. OMV is still not working properly.

  • I tried to stop the RAID now again with the command you stated above, but it now returns:

"mdadm: Cannot get exclusive access to /dev/md0:Perhaps a running process, mounted filesystem or active volume group?"

I am SUPER afraid of losing my data.

    • Offizieller Beitrag

I am SUPER afraid of losing my data.

With raid6 you can have 2 drives fail any more and you've lost the lot!! I suppose you don't have a backup :)

mdadm: /dev/md0 has been started with 4 drives (out of 6).

This is the problem and the reason that this devices=/dev/sdb,/dev/sdc,/dev/sdd,/dev/sde didn't make sense, the outputs from fdisk and blkid do not show any other drives, what's in Storage -> Disks
