Help understanding S.M.A.R.T. Details

  • Hello,

i´m looking for a bit of help understanding the S.M.A.R.T. details i recieved.

I bought 2 similar IronWolf 6TB for my NAS. One (SDB) is already initialisiert, but gives me some SMART details i´m not really understanding. The other one (SDD) i guess i have to give back. The Initialissierung takes already 3 times longer then the other one. And, i cant get SMART details from here.

Maybe one of you could help me out understanding.

    Thanks in advance

    Matt

Essentially, if you get any errors for the critical attributes the drive is much more likely to fail soon. Hours/days.

The first drive looks very fine!

The S.M.A.R.T. attributes can also be used to estimate the age and wear on the drive. Some estimates (Backblaze) say that about 5% of the drives fail during the first 18 months. Under the next 18 months only an additional 1.5%. After 3 years 12% of the drives have failed. After 4 years 20%. After 6 years 50%. If the temperature was warmer than say 40-50C then more drives fail quicker.

If you can't read any attributes at all, then the drive most likely already has failed. Or there is some other problem.

The critical attributes are the ones with a warning triangle in the table of attributes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…ATA_S.M.A.R.T._attributes
