CRON and Apt-Get errors

  • Hello I'm currently running OMV 3

Any time I try checking for updates in Update Management, Plugins, and OMV-Extras I get errors such as the exerpt below. From a little reserach I believe this is related to outdated debian repositories and I need to fix the pointers for those repositories.

    Failed to execute command 'export PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin; export LANG=C; apt-get update 2>&1' with exit code '100': Ign file: InReleaseIgn file: Release.gpgIgn file: ReleaseIgn file: Translation-enHit http://security.debian.org jessie/updates InReleaseHit http://linux.teamviewer.com stable InReleaseIgn http://ftp.us.debian.org jessie InReleaseGet:1 https://dl.bintray.com jessie InReleaseIgn https://dl.bintray.com jessie InReleaseHit https://apt.dockerproject.org debian-jessie InReleaseHit http://ftp.us.debian.org jessie-updates InReleaseGet:2 https://dl.bintray.com jessie InReleaseIgn https://dl.bintray.com jessie InReleaseGet:3 http://linux.teamviewer.com stable/tv12 amd64 Packages [860 B]Get:4 http://security.debian.org jessie/updates/main Sources [337 kB]Get:5 https://dl.bintray.com jessie InReleaseIgn https://dl.bintray.com jessie InReleaseHit https://dl.bintray.com jessie Release.gpgGet:6

I've also received errors in my daily / weekly CRON logs

    /etc/cron.daily/openmediavault-cron-apt:stdin: is not a tty

and I'm hoping on resolving these too. Any help is appreciated.

  • OMV 3 is based on Debian Jessie. Debian Jessie reached End of Life in June 2017 and Debian shuttered the repos for it.

You may be able to edit your /etc/apt/sources.list per the below link to receive LTS Debian security updates until June 30, 2020, but there will be no further OMV updates. Best practice recommendation is to upgrade to OMV 4 or wait for OMV 5.

is there a reliable upgrade path to OMV 4 from 3

Yes the upgrade is working quite well.

    • update the system with omv-update
    • if you get issues with backports: mv /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openmediavault-kernel-backports.list /root/
    • do again omv-update, if there are no errors any more continue with next steps

    • remove all plugins which are not available for OMV4
    • omv-release-upgrade from the CLI
    • done

As usual, it is always a good idea to have backups.
