QNAP QNA-UC5G1T USB 3 network adapter

  • hey guys,

new to omv5 and relatively new to linux in general, but not at all squeamish about terminal

i caught a break and found a tech store going out of business... picked up some hardware on the cheap!
i got 8x 8tb toshiba n300 drives, and 4x 10tb ironwolf drives... grabbed a cheap motherboard, LSI hba, and a Pentium gold all for less than 500 bucks. part of my buy was this usb network adapter from qnap... QNAP QNA-UC5G1T
i have drivers for both windows and linux, but im not able to install them (i know, damn linux noob...)
any pointers on where to look for further advice or maybe a cheat sheet on what to do?
im happy with instructions, but would REALLY like an explanation of WHAT is happening and what im doing wrong... (to better understand linux commands instead of just copying and pasting)

    thanks in advance guys

  • thanks for the reply!

    this is what i get

    #uname -r
    5.2.0-0.bpo.3-amd64

    # lsusb

If you use the proxmox kernel (ubuntu kernel), the module is there:

    aaron@omv5dev:~$ grep -i aqc111 /boot/config-5.*

  • Will try asap, I don't currently have my port for omv web control open to the outside world... Will have to have my friend go into my router and open it up for me because I'm now out of town (trucker)

  • Quick question, will I be able to access my system remotely after switching to proxmox kernel? I'm currently out of state, but definitely want to get this working so others can find the right answer

  • I THINK I did it right, I clicked the install proxmox, everything went thru ok, no errors...

    Still no change within omv

Because the backports kernel is newer than the proxmox kernel, you either need to manually select the proxmox kernel in the drop down in the kernel tab of omv-extras or remove the Debian kernels (button for that in omv-extras as well). So, the reason it isn't working is because your system booted the Debian kernel (hence the 5.2.x version instead of 5.0.x).

pve has now 5 .3 kernel:

Thanks. I hadn't noticed that it was out yet since it is still opt-in on my proxmox nodes. I will update omv-extras to install it.

If anything requires an unplug/replug it'll have to wait till I get back home in a month...

well then just load the module manually if the device is plugged interface should come up. That’s just to see if it loads automatically.

    modprobe aqc111

Aaron,it will soon be default, so you don't need to set anything. I'm guessing in 2-3 weeks.

omv-extras explicitly installs pve-kernel-5.0. So, it will need to be changed. I did that because there is no pve-kernel meta package (pve-headers meta package does exist though).
