Ext4-fs error, service all down, what should I do?

  • Hey guys! My NAS suddenly goes into trouble, everything even ssh does not work now.
When I connect a monitor and enter the recover mode, ext4-fs error (device sda1)(which is the ssd I install Openmediavault) keep poping on the screen.
I guess for some reasons, the file system in ssd is broken, how can I fix it? I have some important data in the storage.

It is easy, you have three options:

    0. You check that the cabling and power is OK. Swap and unplug replug.
    1. You fix it with some simple restorative surgery on the NAS rootfs.
    2. You restore a working backup or clone.
    3. You reinstall from scratch.

You can find more details about 1. if you do a web search for something like "ext-4 fs error, what should I do". It might be helpful to boot up from some live Linux distro on a thumbdrive and do the NAS brain surgery on the SSD from there. Perhaps use a system rescue distro on the thumb drive? Hopefully your patient will survive and you can fix what is wrong. If not, just try 2 or 3.

Yet another option is to hire a skilled friend or computer technician and have him/her do the job for you.

Be smart - be lazy. Clone your rootfs.
