If the filesystems ISN'T mounted, then OMV can't umount nothing.
How to remove missing file system/device?

There is no unmount feature in OMV web GUI.
There is one, the button with the Stop icon. This is greyed out until the volume is not referenced/used by a shared folder anymore.
-
It would be nice if there was a way to see what is referenced or using the drive.

This is true as for other things in OMV; if it is not implemented there are strong reasons why it is so. In this case, there is simply no way to prepare the references backwards in a human-readable form. If there was a simple way, it would already be implemented.

There are two ways that I know of.
Storage | Shared Folders - lists shared folders and whether or not a shared folder is referenced.
Services | Reset perms | Shared Folder in Use - lists shared folders and which service is using the shared folder.

Maybe even a "tool tip" when hovering over the "greyed out" unmount button.
I know but a "button" or something would help newer users and avoid threads like this recurring over the years.

It is greyed out when it is in use.

........after mounting it appeared in the srv folder. Which puzzles me why it is not vol or not even mnt folder.
See the FHS standard: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filesystem_Hierarchy_Standard

Uuuuhhhh, you hit a > 10 years old issue. I really wonder why nobody tried to unmount a read-only file system since then. The file system handling has been changed dramatically in OMV6, maybe this check was useful in <= OMV5. But anyway, the issue will be fixed in 6.0.47, see https://github.com/openmediava…f13ef30104257142efef7f84d.

It has come up many times since. Not only for read only. If a drive fails or is removed too. That is why being able to see what is referenced would help people understand why it is greyed out. Or at least a "tooltip" with some explanation of what to look for.
Thanks

Those are different issues. The problem Volker fixed was specifically not being able to unmount a read only filesystem.

UUUUUh, off topppp!!!!
How is off topic? He fixed the exact issue you are having with the installation medium. It will allow you to unmount the installation medium now.
Can you make unmount button in omv, no? I thought so.
There already is an unmount button in OMV. It just won't let you unmount a filesystem while it is in use. umount has the same problem.

It is greyed out, have you had a look at my screenshots?
You cannot delete the filesystem (even though it is missing) because it is marked in use. So you have a shared folder service, or something pointing at that filesystem. Delete that (or as many as there are) and you should be able to delete the filesystem..

Nope, I did not create a share on the installation medium. I only looked at its contents through the mc in wetty once. And then i removed it on computer shut down. On next boot it reappears as missing. On plugging in, it reappears as present, but at no point it allows to dismount it.
It can be removed by editing the config.xml file which means that is not a linux issue but the build problem. This was the 10 year old bug votdev fixed. It only affected read-only media.
Also, what does it it mean umount would not work, it worked! Check my screenshot, it shows device unmounted!!! Are you blind?
Did you read my comment? I said "if in use". I'm quite certain I know how umount works.

How is an installation medium automatically read only.
In your case it was a CD-ROM which is by definition read-only.
