SMART Error, but where?

  • I took my USB backup disk out of its case to see if there is any speed difference connecting it via SATA.
After doing so I just noticed some kind of SMART error on it. SMART -> Devices -> Overview shows red. But under Information -> Attributes, I cant find any error. ?(
    Extended Information:

    (See attached)

    Syslog has some messages like

    Code
    Jan 21 20:21:57 NAS kernel: [103675.365479] sd 5:0:0:0: [sde] tag#4 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE

Is it possibly just because the controller has changed without reformat or should I get a new one? Thanks in advance!

  • EDIT
Ok there are definitely unreadable files. Tried to copy some with rsync and it says

    Code
rsync: read errors mapping "/srv/dev-disk-by-id-ata-ST8000DM004-2CX188_WCT26A05-part1/Testfile": Input/output error (5)
WARNING: Testfile failed verification -- update discarded (will try again).

    Syslog says

I think it is no cable issue or so, since it is always the same sectors. Guess I am gonna get the retour carton ready.

  • Oh there is a tooltip, nice! Yes, it says Bad Sectors. Unfortunately reallocation fails. So is there anything else I could do or just change the disk? Data loss would be just a bit annoying but no real problem here.
