Which boot device / interface? USB 3.1 or PCIe 2.0 1x?

  • After finding out I cannot store files on a boot device when having OMV installed I'm not sure what to choose for a boot device. I'm thinking about either using USB 3.1 gen1 or my PCIe 2.0 1x slot. What's the better option here and why?

I know that USB will give me theoratically 1250MB/s and PCIe 2.0 1x 500MB/s but what about the energy efficiency? And is it even possible to boot from these interfaces in OMV??? Do I need plugings?

My motherboard is a Asrock J5005-ITX.

  • Worrying about the performance of the OMV boot device is essentially pointless. I run mine, a 16GB SSD on a USB 2.0 interface and have no complaints about it.
