No device in Shares dropdown for SMB/CIFS after botched upgrade.

  • Hi!

Performed an upgrade from OMV4 to OMV5, but did not uninstall all plugins prior to performing the upgrade (stupid me).
Of-course this botched the upgrade, and I got stuck with broken packages, and after cleanup I basically had to re-install from scratch!
Followed the "Install OMV5 on Debian 10 (Buster)" (Install OMV5 on Debian 10 (Buster))

The system is now up and running, and I have started adding my configuration back, but are running into issues!
When trying to add the SMB/CIFS mounts back, there are no device in Shares dropdown!

Think it has to do with my "/etc/openmediavault/config.xml" file that was re-installed?
Thinking it has to do with the configuration of my drive(s) in there?

The MD-RAID is still there, and I can access the filesystem and files just fine via SSH!

Any hints on how to configure them back?

and I have started adding my configuration back

Think it has to do with my "/etc/openmediavault/config.xml" file that was re-installed?

In any omv versions (except i think really early ones) this is still not feasible. Keep it as reference, but configuration has to be done manually.

Only people with utter knowledge of how omv works internally might be able to perform a "restore" using config.xml, most of the time unsuccessful. Again don't waste your time redo the configuration manually either by looking at config.xml section by section or if you remember by memory.

  • So, what is your suggestion? Would want to avoid reinstalling the OS from scratch, having to redo the RAID with all my files, or are you saying that is what I need to do/that is the only solution?

Or is there some setup command for OMV that I can manually run to redo this configuration?

  • Ok, so my fstab looks like this:

So you are saying to hash out/remove:
    "UUID=f7e3bc30-c184-4f4d-aa81-b87ffeb6d844 /media/f7e3bc30-c184-4f4d-aa81-b87ffeb6d844 ext4 defaults,nofail,user_xattr,noexec,usrjquota=aquota.user,grpjquota=aquota.group,jqfmt=vfsv0,acl 0 2"

and then reboot, and OMV should pick it and re-add it to fstab?

Then I should be able to add it from GUI to SMB/CIFS-shares, is this the correct understanding?

    Edit:

Tried above, no change to fstab, still no shared-folder available in GUI.
Sorry if I am "thickheaded", but I want to get it right...

yes hash or remove, then reboot . After boot instead of going shared folder go to the filesystem section, the md0 device should be available there but not mounted. Proceed to mount via the web button, once finished should be available to use for shared folders
