Is there still a root user login available if you install via the bash script on a Pi 4?

Hi all. I'm a log time user or OMV and I've just set up my Pi 4 via the recommended bash script.

I had some trouble logging in over SSH for the first time, but thanks to this thread I got everything sorted. I have a few extra questions though please.

1) I've created a new user and deleted the old one via the admin panel. I assume there is no root password or if I need to change the root password I can do this via the new user? Previously during installation on older versions of OMV a default password was created for later use, but I installed via the shell script and nothing was printed out in this manner.

2) The script appears to be the only way to install OMV on a Pi 4, but it installs OMV 5 - should I be using OMV 4 instead as last I heard, OMV 5 was still pre release? If so, what's the best way to install OMV 4 on a Pi 4?

OMV5 is pretty stable. I run it on my both systems. Others do as well. And Buster Debian 10 is recommended for RPI4. So you should be fine.

If you like, you could try to install Raspian Stretch. Then the scipt will install OMV4. I would not do, though as Stretch will be EOL soon.

Ah ok, sound good to keep using 5 then. Am I right about the root password? Thanks.

You can create a new user in the GUI of OMV and add him to the ssh and sudo group. Then you can use this user to change the password of the root user. However, it is advised to not use the root user at all, but just use the normal user and give him elevated privileges if needed with sudo.
