VDR Plugin

  • VDR plugin is available at the omv-extras.org repository.
    This plugin enables you to record TV programs to your OMV. You also need a TV card/usb-device that is compatible with Linux.
    User interface is done with VDRAdmin-AM. (Browser based)






    If you do not see this option on the omv-extras page then check for updates with the update manager. And after you have enabled VDR from e-tobi repositories you have to go to the Plugins menu and check for new plugins.


    Setup:
    1. Connect a TV card/usb-device to your OMV
    2. Install the VDR plugin
    3. Set the parameters for channel scan and then scan for channels
    4. Set the other settings to your liking and enable VDR and VDRAdmin-AM
    5. Use your browser and go to <ip-of-your-OMV>:8001 (Or if you changed the port then type the correct port)
    6. Default user/password is linvdr/linvdr
    7. Go to Configuration/Identification to change the username/password


    At first the EPG information updates slowly so please wait.


    ATSC, DVB-T and DVB-S have not been fully tested. Please let us know if they are working.

    It is in its own repo (sardaukar-vdr) because it requires a third party repo for newer components.

  • The plugin works nicely (at least on DVB-C in Finland). The plugin sets up the VDR and VDRAdmin and points the important parameters for the user. So you just set it once and rest of the usage is through the VDRAdmin-AM (added a screen shot to the first post).


    I looked through numerous guides how VDR should be set up and it took me a couple nights before I got it to work. For many users a couple of nights trying out parameters in a shell is just too long...

  • I have to say - I do not see the panel for 'developer features (experimental) in the OMV-extras.org.
    How can I activate it?

    BTW the option OMV-extras.org came only by after rebooting when the plugin for this enabled the first time.

    It is in the second tab labeled "Secondary" now.

    Actually I'm quite new to VDR and didn't know what would be the best choice. I'll definetly look into this.


    I'm working on an update that will include new features for the plugin:
    -Channel arrangement from OMV interface
    -Check available dvb devices


    PS.
    Please post what kind of device you are using DVB-C/T/S so we know if they all have been tested.
    And if there is someone who knows how to enable streaming from the commandline please post some instructions. I'll try them and see if I can incorporate them to the plugin so streaming could be enabled from there.

    So, I would suggest you to open a thread with your questions in the "vdr-portal.de" forum (english section). There are many VDR specialists who think OMV with a VDR-plugin are a big deal.

  • I'm a little bit confused about how you want the streaming to be implemented. Is it in a window in the browser? Or do you mean something like the streamdev plugin? :)

    I mean the streamdev plugin. I did some reading on the streamdev plugin but I'm not 100% sure what kind of options it has on the server side and where are they set. Allowed IP addresses, ports etc.. If I understood correctly streamdev will enable streaming to live-plugin and over to a vlc player or any other player. Is there a "full screen" web stream client plugin for VDR so that you could watch live tv "netflix style"?


    Hopefully you can help on the coding work also on the next release.

    If it works in Linux then there shouldn't be any problem with VDR. Just remember I'm no expert so no guarantees. :D
    I use Anysee E30 C. It is a DVB-C USB device. The driver for my device was in the kernel so I didn't have to install any additional stuff.

    It is listed and added to the kernel in 2.6.27. I see the option for ATSC in the plugin. So, I will be able to test/add to the plugin when I get my card tomorrow :)

    I think I only set up this file when I tried it: /etc/vdr/plugins/streamdevhosts.conf
    I probably will because I have some enhancement ideas for the channels thing :)

  • Regarding DVB-S tuner cards have look to http://www.vdr-wiki.de/wiki/in…S2_Budget-PCI/PCIe-Karten. This link shows the status of (un-) supported. It's in German but you should be able to recognize what are the parameters.

    I'm using a cine s2 dual S2 card and from my experience it's good to have the backport kernel installed. If you use the default openmediavault kernel it's always a hazzle to make vdr run because of missing firmware/drivers


    I've used vdr for quite a long time now and i'm really happy about this plugin. Great work!!!!!


    I would also recommend to use vdr-live plugin (http://live.vdr-developer.org/de/screenshots.php) instead of vdr-admin but this is not a showstopper. CLI is your friend!


    You're right, streamdev-plugin give you the option to watch live tv. You can use vlc already using http://<ip_adress>:<port>/<type_decoding>/<channel>, e.g. http://192.168.0.200:3000/PES/3.
    In streamdevhost.conf you can configure your network preferences, e.g. allowed ip adresses to stream to, port .... It's not very complicated. again CLI and editor is your friend.
