Second life for a Thecus N0503

  • Hi!

First of all sorry for my poor english as i was french its normal....

So few week ago i decided to change my old N0503 whitch as no firmware update since a lot of time... And i think the hardware near to a PC could surpport a nas distro.
So i look around the net to a marvelous distro, the first problem i found was that N270 processor wasn't x64 compiliant.
I found OMV and after 2 weeks reading this board i decide to jump on.

first of all live OMV 5 cd even if you desable serial ports don't want to install so i decide to test OMV over Wheezy that seems installing on my motherboard.

to do that you have to open the box

    i have :
Replace the 1Gb Sodimm for a 2Gb Sodimm
replace the 2Gb DOM by a 16Gb DOM from Ebay (it's better if you want to go back to Thecus OS).
paste an old Matrox MGA PCI CARD
plug an Wireless MOUSE/Keyboard on front USB
    Unplug ALL the HDD

Put a linux 7.0.2 netinst to an USB stick and stick in on rear USB

Turn on the nas press F2 to go on bios
Change to boot on usb stick

so i install A debian 7.0.2 netinst perfectly
    reboot N0503

Establish a SSH connection As ROOT

    Install Postfix and suppress Exim:

    # apt-get --purge install postfix

    OMV:

    # echo "deb http://packages.openmediavault.org/public fedaykin main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openmediavault.list
    # apt-get update
    # apt-get install openmediavault-keyring libapache2-mod-php5

    scponly and php5-pam:

    # apt-get install subversion build-essential debhelper po-debconf xsltproc php5-dev libpam-dev
    # cd /tmp
    # wget http://ftp.us.debian.org/debia…/scponly_4.8-4.1_i386.deb
    # dpkg -i scponly_4.8-4.1_i386.deb

    #apt-get install debhelper
    #git clone https://code.google.com/p/omv-ubuntu/
    #cd omv-ubuntu/deb/php5-pam
    #dpkg-buildpackage
    #cd ..
    #dpkg -i php5-pam_1.0.3-1_i386.deb

    # apt-get install openmediavault

    So now reboot N0503
establish a WEB connection ADMIN => OPENMEDIAVAULT
Setup up your network connection IP,MASK,GATEWAY,DNS

my question now is that all seems OK but i can't UPGRADE to SARDAUKAR and my plugin list empty ?

Unless you want to wait for OMV 0.6, you need to install Debian Squeeze (6.0) for OMV 0.5.

    omv 7.0.5-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.1.4 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.4

Yes but OMV (0.4 or 0.5) does not work well under Debian Wheezy (7.0). The plugin list is one of things that does not work.
