ebook server

  • Hi All,

I've just started a collection of ebooks and use an ipad mini as a reader, to be able to access the books via wireless I have been running Calibre which does have a Web Server mode, on my Mint 14 desktop.
It works pretty well, but I have been trying to get it to work on my OMV, I run 4.38 but have a test OMV 5 virtual that I have been running to see what happens with different software.

It works but, I can only add books using the full GUI on the Mint desktop, then I have to transfer the library folder to the share drive connected to the virtual OMV then run the server daemon from command line.

I was wondering if any one had tried it or something similar for an ebook library

It is probably ready to go in the testing repo. Works well for me.

  • Hi,

just installed it and looks very good.

One question. Does the import not scan recursive in a folder? My books are all in subfolders with the author´s name. Do I have to copy them in a seperate folder without subfolders?

  • If thats the case, i can give you a script for symlinking them into one folder.

There might be a recursive scan option. Let me check.

  • Just installed the calibre plugin, install went fine.

Not yet enabled because I could not change the library folder, is this correct?

    Thanks,
    Ben

  • Thanks for the link, I've tried adding the plugin, but the web interface does not come up.
there is an error saying that server connection is refused.
I must be doing something wrong, the plugin will not let me import books.

    thanks

    Did you get an error?

    No.

Just a question if I can change the library folder, from /home/calibre to /calibre.
Not a big deal, if I can't change it.

    Greetings,
    Ben

You have to change the library folder to enable the server.

If the web interface is not working, I doubt the server is running. Under Diagnostics | Services, what is the status?

  • I enabled the plugin.

The library folder automaticly changed to /calibre-data.
    That's what I want.. :D

    Thanks for making this plugin.

    Greetings,
    Ben

  • I have set the library folders within the plugin, and checked the status of the service which says it is enabled.
The only other plugin I can think might affect it is owncloud.
As this is just a test bed server at the moment I'm going to remove the owncloud plugin and do a restart.

I might even re-install from scratch.

  • Hi All,

I've done a clean install of omv and added the calibre plugin, library folder is set.
I still dont get any joy. No web interface comes up.
I created a share for the book import and copied some books in it, but it would not add the books.

    Michael

  • Hi
I finally managed to add a book, I had to place just the epub file in the root of the BookImport folder.
So it dosnt seem to want to work with books in folders.
I still cant get the web interface up.

It doesn't recurse subfolders (yet). So, yes you need to put the in the root of the folder.

If you can import a book, permissions should be right. Did you try rebooting?
