plex media server can't start web client for config

  • Hi all,
i need a dlna server with transcoding capabilities, so i tried plex. I selected it in the plugin list, install. no errors. then click on the left side - plex media server, enabled it, select my raid drive, save configuration (automatically change the database folder inside my raid drive). when i try to go to the client web page for configuration... 404.. .can't reach the page.

    Any helps/suggestions?

    Thanks.

Try as root either locally or over ssh:

    /etc/init.d/plexmediaserver restart

    omv 7.0.4-2 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.5 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.10 | compose 7.1.2 | k8s 7.0-6 | cputemp 7.0 | mergerfs 7.0.3

    Reboot

Most people aren't having this problem and I can't reproduce it.

    omv 7.0.4-2 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.5 proxmox kernel

  • I've been able to replicate the issue - fresh install of v5 base image. But havent had much time to work on it.

Looks like a seg fault of some description and the plugin not functioning correctly. Im able to start the service if I go to:

/usr/lib/plexmediaserver and ./start.sh. It seg faulted at first but worked the second time around and are then able to access via the gui.

I'll investigate further and update once I've worked it out ... Im a bit (read lot) of a newb when it comes to linux so might take a while.

  • I'm having a similar issue. Installed OK, but web interface doesn't respond. Temporarily disabled firewall - same issue. Basically the browser just doesn't respond.

Are there other pre-requisites that I'm missing?

  • Try this:

    service plexmediaserver stop
    update-rc.d -f plexmediaserver remove
    insserv plexmediaserver
    /etc/init.d/plexmediaserver start

The first line of stopping the service may seem odd, as it is most likely not running, but it is good practice to always do this before modifying anything with a service.

  • Thanks tekkbebe. Unfortunately when I attempt to stop plex, I get the error exec: 129: stop: not found

Does this mean it's not properly installed/registered in the first place? Should I kill it?

  • Seems to be working now. I totally removed it from the GUI, removed it using apt-get remove, then re-got the package via the CLI.

There is something wrong with the installer via the GUI. Well, there is in *my* case, so I had to install via CLI, and it seems OK now. Shame, but oh well.

  • Guys, are you logged into omv via http or https? If you are logged in via https you have to click on the button to pull up a separate tab in your browser. The iframe will not work in https because only secure content can be displayed in the iframes while connected via https. When at home on your LAN use http and create firewall rule so that only local connections can connect via port 80.

  • I now have this same problem. I ran PMS fine before on 0.5 and 1.0, but after recent reinstall of OS (I still have a backup, but not sure how to restore from my Data drive) I couldn't get it setup correctly. Same firewall settings as before. plexmediaserver is not running, and I have followed each step that is suggested above. I'm updated to 1.11, rebooted, nothing.

Not getting response on omv.ip:32400, and service is not running after checking /etc/init.d/plexmediaserver status. Any ideas?

    OMV 4.1.35-1 (Arrakis)

  • Edit: I now have access to http://my.ip:32400/web/index.html
I did this by changing my firewall to forward port 32400 through 192.168.0.0/24 edited from the examples you give for firewall settings.

After I changed that, I had full local access.

Now however, inside my plex client, when I select the folder for my media on the drive, plex isn't able to scan the directory for my media. Files are all there. Maybe ACL or permissions issue?
