OMV and Raspberry pi

  • Hi,

I'am trying to use OMV with my brand new RPI B+, but i a'm windows user (sorry for that guys), not a linux one..
Anyway, i download the RPI image (omv_1.0.7_rpi.img.gz) and installed on my sd card. No specific problems, i can access to the web interface. But when i tried to add plugin, i have error message even when i try and update the plugin list :

And the web interface is very slow.. Is it because the RPI version is not fully optimized? And what about the other image (omv_0.6.14_rpi.img.gz)? what's the difference between the two images? I'am sorry full newbie here!
    Thanks for your help..

Try logging in locally as root:

    apt-get update

The web interface is slow because the RPi is slow. You can try raspi-config and set gpu memory to 16 mb and maybe overclock. The 0.6.14 is an older version. No need to try it.

  • Thanks for the answer..
I try the command you gave me.
But obviously, i'am not logged as root. I use the default user "Pi" and put into the "root" group into the web interface. But it seels not enought. Is there a default root user into the image?

  • How about 'root'?

    Password should be 'openmediavault'.

Yes. default password for root is: openmediavault

Otherwise, you could do: sudo apt-get update

  • Thanks guys, i was able to launch the apt-get update..
Anyway, i still can't get the list of plugins. I'am currently updating trought the web interface and i will see after..

  • Hi guys,

Still the same issue concerning plugins index. So i made a new install, a apt-get update as root, and update via the web interface. And each time i made an upadate trought web interface, i get an error message about index plugin such as this one :

    Zitat

Creating index of OpenMediaVault plugins ...
    {"response":null,"error":{"code":7003,"message":"Failed to read from socket: Resource temporarily unavailable","trace":"exception 'OMVException' with message 'Failed to read from socket: Resource temporarily unavailable' in \/usr\/share\/php\/openmediavault\/rpc.inc:168\nStack trace:\n#0 \/usr\/sbin\/omv-rpc(107): OMVRpc::exec('Plugin', 'createIndex', Array, Array, 2)\n#1 {main}"}}

So, isn't something missing somewhere for the raspberry pi version?

    Thanks,

    Mat

OMV doesn't have a different version for the RPi. The RPi is just slow. How many repos in omv-extras do you have enabled?

Your SD card might also be slow and/or could by failing. Debian/OMV aren't very nice to SD cards and usb sticks due to the high number of writes.

  • Thanks Ryecoaaron.
I have enable the 2 primary repos. Is there any custom ones i could add to improve that?
I preparing a french tutorial for OMV on RPI, and i'am quite disapointed for now. I get that the RPI is slow and so on. But if i can't use plugin, i won't get a NAS, just an FTP server (wich is already quite good, but not the target).

The more repos enabled, the slower it is.

Other than slowness, I really didn't have any problem with my RPi. The plugin list worked fine. I really do think your sd card might be failing.

  • So just for testing purposes I installed wheezy and OMV on top of my RasPi with my new SanDisk Extreme (45mb/s). I overclocked my RasPi and it runs very smooth and without errors actually. Therefore I agree with aaron that it might be your sd card which is either failing or just too slow.

  • Thanks for the reply..
I'am Ok with the speed issue, but the explanation for the plugin seems a little bit strange. This IT, it works or not, wether it's slow or not.. I also tried to dowload plugins and upload them via the web interface, i also get an error message :

    Zitat

Failed to upload package 'openmediavault-btsync-master.zip'. The package name does not match the plugin naming convention.

Can i use a command as root to launch the plugin install?
WastlJ : can you give me your SD card accurate ref so that i can order the same?
one more question : since the forum upadate, i do not receive any mail notification for new replies. I didn't find where to set that, is it still possible?

  • Do not upload the zip. Upload the deb file inside the zip.

You must know that apt-get is really slow on the pi and to create and update the Plugin Index, all Plugins are simulated to be installed! Therefore it may be a good idea to just use the neccessarry repos!

  • Hi Davidh2k,

I find the .deb and tried to upload it, i get an error message :

My SD card is a sandisk class 10 (not an "extreme" as WastlJ), but quite not a slow card anyway.
May i add that as a window user, i have to use a soft to install the image on the SD card. Maybe the issue coming from that. I can't use the program from the wiki and used "Win32DiskImager".

  • I guess you're missing some of the error output? Execute the following via CLI and post the full output here:

    Code
    export LANG=C; apt-get update

Try it again. The system checks for updates daily and was in the middle of a check.
