Transmission capped network speed?

  • So I am new to NAS, and I have absolutely no idea why download speed is so slow.
Here is what I have done
    -Installed OMVextra plugin
    -Enable OMV-Extras.org,miller,miller testing,btsync repository
    -Installed transmission
    -Enables it (default everything)

But the download speed is much slower, one torrent I got about 1MBps on my windows machine but only got about 300KBps on transmission. Did I do something wrong ?(
Definitely not the problem of my computer, I tried FreeNAS and NAS4free and it works fine

    Hardware configurations
CPU: Intel Pentium T4400 @2.20 GHz
    RAM: 3GB
    HDD:350GB HGST Travelstar

  • Hi
    Just to check...
do you have the correct ports forwarded from the router?
If from the server tab you have "Enable port forwarding via NAT-PMP or UPnP" selected can you check that the router is configured accordingly?
    Thanks
    FT

  • No I did not
And I have no idea what port forwarding via NAT-PMP or UPnP is.
Do I just turn it off? Cause I dont really use dlna

  • if you have "Enable port forwarding via NAT-PMP or UPnP" selected you need to log in into your router and check that the UPnP option is selected.

normally your router would have an IP address like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (if the router is supplied by your ISP check the back/bottom of the router for a label with this information).
you need to open a web browser, enter the appropriate ip address, log in as administrator and navigate the menus until you find this option....

  • Then Yes I did
UPNP Setup is ON both my router and transmission

  • ok, so this means that transmission is communicating properly.
can you check that you have an appropriate number of peers per download (say 60 per torrent...) and that from the bandwidth tab there are no restrictions?

I suggest that you check this from both server side (server tab for the torrent plugin in OMV) and from the web browser interface -IP of your server:9091-? I have noticed that sometimes changes from the web browser interface are not updated in the server tab.

  • absolutly sure there is no caps at all
peer limits are all set to 100 but they are bearly connecting to 40
Global peer limit is set to 250

  • ...strange. with these settings you should be ok. with my system I easily max out my bandwidth (and I have a very fast connection).

can you try on another torrent?
if you have transmission on your desktop maybe it's worth checking that all settings are exactly identical and compare the speeds (but I reckon you might have done this already)

  • It seems like only download is affected, upload speed is normal.
There are multiple torrents downloading and they all are not at full speed

  • Well It just stop uploading ||
And the total download speed seems to be capped at 3MBps, a torrent with 550 seeds and 52 peers is downloading at only 100KBps

  • No caps everywhere
    port is open
Everything is the same as those i am using in freenas and they worked fine (except that it "cannot connect to tracker" after a reboot and everything breaks down)

  • I'm not sure.
your system in communicating correctly but I can't understand why you are going so slow...any chance that your ISP may be capping your connection if they have detected that you're downloading?

  • Or maybe I will try rebooting after transferring all my stuff back online
    Rebooting usually helps?
