I cannot ping anything

  • Hey guys,

    I configured my network automatically using DHCP and also I tried static IP. In 3rd step I tried DNS at 8.8.8.8. In all cases it's impossible to ping any URL using CLI. Update in Webinterface works normal. But without working DNS on CLI it's impossible to get upgrade to OMV 1.0.

    Any ideas how I can solve this problem?

    Thanks in advance,
    etests

    If you can ping google's dns servers, you should be ok. What is the complete output of: apt-get update

    omv 7.0.5-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.1.4 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.4

    omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github - changelogs

  • But I'm not able to ping google.de, zeit.de and so on.

    ...and lots of similar lines.

    Try: omv-firstaid to reset the network settings.

    Unfortunately, you can't do an upgrade from the cd. Just a fresh install. What is the output of: cat /etc/network/interfaces

    omv 7.0.5-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.1.4 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.4

    Do you have firewall rules set?

    I'm guessing you didn't set them then.

    I really don't know what is going on. Maybe try resetting you router??

    If I'm not mistaken.. that looks like you're reaching Google's DNS server.

    That's what I was thinking but he can't resolve domains.

  • Hi KM0201,

    I can ping every IP on the world:

    Code
    root@erde:/tmp# ping google.com

    ping: unknown host google.com

    But I cannot ping any Domain. It looks like OMV isn't able to resolve Domain names.

    ryecoaaron: Just done. I also tried other router. But all other devices have no problems with internet access. Is there a way to download upgrade package to another computer and start upgrade locally?

    Is your configuration that complex that you don't want to install fresh? It would be a LOT easier. I'm not 100% sure that upgrading would fix it either.

  • I use basic OMV with LVM and natatalk. I have 4x 1TB HDD, 4x 2TB HDD and system disk with 2GB. I have 2 LVM and 2 Raid. If I reinstall new with 1.0, does it found all drives and can I use Raid without reconfiguration? What I have to do after new setup?

    • Offizieller Beitrag

    You unplug the data drives when reinstalling. It will find the raid/lvm but you need to setup your users and shares again.

    Definitely 1.0 :)
