There is an template here included in the install
/usr/share/openmediavault/templates/config.xml
How did you remove it?
There should be a auto-backup, but I can't find one on my Server, too. I was sure Volker added code to create it on every config-save
Searching ...
Edit:
Found: it worked in 0.4.x
http://bugtracker.openmediavault.org/view.php?id=745
but not in 1.0.x!
Bug-Report is here: http://bugtracker.openmediavault.org/view.php?id=1196
Nice job...

I just rm purge plex and userdel and by magic after the reboot it was gone
So i went looking for the bak but apparently only php.ini was there , something must have gone wrong
Nice job...
I know
Can not reproduce this problem with 1.0.32, the config backup file is created for each change in the WebGUI.
# ls -alh

It isn't created on my system, also 1.0.32
Can someone please cross-check it? Thx

I can send you a debug-log or something to help tracking this issue. What info do you need?
Edit:
Here is the debug-output of omv-engined, whiile enabling/Disabling FTP and saving it.
omv-engined-debug.zip
Please check your system, it seems something does not match to the default installation of OMV. The OMVConfigEngine::commit() method will definitively through an exception (line 428) if the backup creation fails.
I upgraded it from 0.5 to 0.6 to 1.0
Can you please be a little bit more detailed? What should I look for?
In which file is this method?
Thx
First of all make sure the /usr/share/php/openmediavault/config.inc file is the correct one. I assume you do not have the correct one because of modifying it manually or something else. The corresponding code is so simply and should through exceptions if something fails, so i can not believe there is something going wrong with the implementation.
I put watch -n 1 ls -la on the directory, files gets created after save, then disappears after apply
I put watch -n 1 ls -la on the directory, files gets created after save, then disappears after apply
This is exactly how it should work.
Aha, then I mixed up something, sorry:
1. it works as Volker and subzero posted
2. I thought: backup IS a backup => config.xml.bak
So a user can revert changes, EVEN if I clicked "Apply" by mistake or has a BACKUP, if he looses his config for whatever reason
If 2. is not possible, then how about a Button to DL the config.xml as e.g. config.xml_20114_11_17?
