  • I originally built my rig with a mid tower ATX case thinking I'd eventually fill it with drives (it's got something like 10-11 available bays). With how large hard drives have gotten since then I'm sitting very nicely with a pair of 3TB WD Reds just as you mentioned you're getting. I'm very happy with them. I have about 700GB free with about 300-400GB that I know are old items that could be removed. Whenever the time comes that I need more storage I'll likely just build a bigger mirror array against some 6TB drives or whatever is logical then. Plus I like to be as green as possible even if we're talking a few watts, as they add up over the years. I'll sport two large drives in a mirror over 4-6 drives in a RAID6 any day (at least for my home application). :P

I'm admittedly a little jealous of that build of yours. There's something about bundling a sweet home storage system into a small package that I really dig. As if it even matters to me since my server sits unseen in the basement. :P

Overall, nice build. I'm digging it. :)
