You need to install the lvm plugin first. Then you can select the disk you want for your lvm.
-
How can I install this plugin?
-
In the plugin section. You'll see a display with all the available plugins. Select the one you want and press the install button.
-
Look in the System -> Plugins list for the openmediavault-lvm2 plugin.

Thanks so much!!!!!

I've just installed lvm plugin but when I try to add a logical volume by clicking in drop-down menu (that it should see all partitions), it's not possible select any physical partitions because they don't appears.
-
Do you have any filesystems in Filesystems tab? You need to pick the physical volumes before you can do anything else.
-
Yes I have 2 hard disks, 1 of 86 gb and another of 1000 gb
-
However I have 2 filesystem in system tab
-
Did you create the physical volumes in the first tab of LVM?
-
Sorry, the very problem is that I can't create physical volumes in the first tab of LVM because there are no hard disks in the drop-down menu.
-
You've already use the drives for creating file systems. You said yourself you have two file systems available one probably is the rootfs the other the big drive. Do you know what is LVM for?
-
Probably I don't know very well lvm
-
Don't use it if you don't need. LVM is for having a flexible volume manager (flexible partitions), reduce, increase size, that's it in a simple way.
If you don't care about filesystem boundaries, extensions and size limitation then keep using a single ext4 formatted drive.

I have to learn it because in my school we have to make a nas that in future it will upgrade with new physical hard disks and the partitions will resize.
So now for learning I have a machine with 2 pysical hard disk and I'm learning how to do lvm. After i'm going to see how to create folders for each students and professors. There are some problems because I don't know very well lvm and I have to import all students that are in another windows server. -
Learn how to use VirtualBox plugin. Then you can make lots of virtual disks and if you make many mistakes it does not matter.
-
I can use lvm with the main hard disk where it was installed openmediavault?
-
You can use LVM with the data disks. In Virtualbox you can create a lot virtual disks to use with LVM. If you ware looking to get experience in LVM this is the way to go. Things like shrinking file systems and pvreduce are not fun. I don't recommend LVM for inexperienced users. A union filesystem, or using symlinks for media folders, to make data available across drives is a better method for most users.

How can I install omv on a logial volume (lvm)? If I have 1 hard disk with 1 logical volume formatted in ext4, how can I install omv in this volume? I ask this because when I want to install the system, it doesn't say where I want to install openmediavault but he formats the main physical hard disk in ext4 and it installs the system there.
