So when configuring AUFS, do you add your parity drives to the AUFS as a branch or not?
SnapRaid + AUFS NOOB Question...

You don't add the parity drive as a branch.
-
Ok... another noob question, do I have to run any scripts to get the parity to happen, or does it just happen at some set time?
-
Normally you have to sync by hand in the snapraid plugin to create the parity. To do it at a specific time, you can create a cron job (anacron plugin for example). Therefor a snapraid script does exist already and you only need to select the right one for you in a drop down box.
-
Thank you sno0k! You have been awesomely helpful. My great server migration (of 2014) has started.
-
Rusty, how are things going? Keen to hear about Snapraid etc.
-
for the script, check this:

Dimtar,
So far so good except for some permissions issues, but I have been struggling with those for a while. Part of it has been some noob mistakes, others I can't figure out for the life of me.

<p>Good to hear mostly, sorry about the permission issues.</p>

this explains better... although both plugins have been updated so keep that in mind

Ok, well I did not follow the AUFS instructions. I just added each drive as a branch to the AUFS pool and the shared the pool. Is this what is giving me all these permissions errors?
-
The aufs instruction is a little bit outdated. There is no need to create shared folder (d1, d2, ...) and set them as branches with the new unionfilesystem plugin. You simply add all your data drives, which are should be in the pool, and the aufs pool will be create and should be visible under the filesystem option in your webui. The parity drive is not a part of the pool, as i mentioned in one of my former posts.
How did you add a shared pool as well to the aufs pool? You don't need to create an extra shared folder for the pool. Or did I have misunderstand something? I got it. Only one letter is missing
-
So when I went to create a Shared Folder and it asks for a volume, I selected the AUFS pool.
-
Here is now I setup each area...

Holy shit that's tons of drives.... at least you were smart enough to have a few parity drives.
It looks fine from my perspective.... did you format all the drives or were they pre-filled? -
Rusty, thanks for reporting back it's great to hear. My next build may use Snapraid, how is the write speeds? Also what case do you use to house all these drives?

The speeds vary, on of my VMs over AFP was saying I was getting 300+ MBs. It's a Supermicro SuperChassis 846E1-R900B, that I bought off eBay. Here is the original listing, definitely a big thumbs up from the seller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPERM…rvers&hash=item2ed980bad5
