Speed Testing an External Raid

    Anybody any thoughts on speed testing my external 4 disk raid, it's currently connected using a USB3 basically because I had the cable to hand, however I'd like to rund a short test on it to get an idea of the read\write speed, then change to a eSata and do the same, anybody any thoughts?

    Change directory to the mounted drive/array and: time dd if=/dev/zero of=test5.dd bs=1M count=20000 conv=fdatasync && sync


    This will write a 20 gb file to the drive and show you speed. The fdatasync option makes sure it is not using memory/cache.
