Mobo Supports Gigabit, but I'm not getting it.

Just like the title says, my M4A79XTD motherboard sports a gigabit NIC, but the system page says the connection is 100Mbps, and I'm seeing 10MBps max speeds.

Is this a fixable issue? or should I be buying a cheap NIC gigabit card? http://www.ebay.com/itm/261688713963

Did you try the backports 3.16 kernel? There is a button to install it in omv-extras. Did you try a different cable? Don't buy a cheap card because it is still probably using a Realtek chipset. You want an Intel chipset card like this (I have it in my server at home).

Backports 3.16 is installed.

And now I'm very embarrassed, It was my cable. It's a full paired cable, but maybe it has a break in it somewhere.

Is there a good way to check cables like this in the future?

The cheap cable testers are just continuity testers. This might show the problem but usually not in my experience (I have two of them). Network analyzers are too expensive. So, just replacing the cable is the best route most of the time.
