lost networking after cloning OMV to new entirely new hardware

  • Hello!

Been trying to clone a working OMV system to much newer hardware using clonezilla. Was able to boot the new system but I lost my networking and cannot ssh, or see my smb shares on the network. I also tried running omv-firstaid but it just go to a white screen and command line.

the error i've been getting while watching the console is:

configuring network interface ...siocsifaddr: no such device
etho: error while getting interface flags: no such device
    siocsifnetmask: no such device
eth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: no such device
    failed to bring up eth0

I'm currently on version 0.4.38 (fedaykin)
old hardware is pentium 4 3.20 ghz
new hardware is xeon e3-1225 (dell powered t20)

i ran ifconfig of old OMV hardware and got:

    eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:13:20:e9:76:11
    inet addr:192.168.1.3 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

when i ran ifconfig on new hardware i did not get any messages regarding eth0 or tun0. i only got messages with: lo

i also tried: rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules but still getting the same problem

I know its not a defective hardware because I can get on the web with new machine using a Linux MINT liveCD

please help! obviously I am not very good with linux and I hope i provided enough information.

  • Did you reboot after deleting /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules ?

Try running omv-firstaid and configure the interface.
