Setting up UPS ... here apc back-ups es 700

  • I have a UPS apc back-ups es 700, now i try to set it up.

    Code
    root@omv:~# lsusb
    Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
    Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
    Bus 002 Device 002: ID 174c:3074 ASMedia Technology Inc.
    Bus 001 Device 002: ID 174c:2074 ASMedia Technology Inc.
    Bus 001 Device 003: ID 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc. USB-2.0 4-Port HUB
    Bus 001 Device 008: ID 051d:0002 American Power Conversion Uninterruptible Power Supply

    I installed the USV-Module but i don't know, how to feed the values ...

    I found the hint for the driver settings:

    Code
    driver = usbhid-ups
    port = auto

    Code
    root@omv:~# upsc -l
    ups1

    Code
    root@omv:~# upsc ups1
    Error: Driver not connected

    what can i do?

    When i try to test it manually i get only that

    Code
    root@omv:~# upsdrvctl start ups1

    Network UPS Tools - Generic HID driver 0.37 (2.6.4)

  • Have seen it. Tried

    Code
    root@omv:~# upsdrvctl start

  • After installing the backport kernel it works:

    So everything is fine ... is it? Final question: "Was it a bug or a feature?" Means: Is it essential to install the backport kernel and why is the driver (for a standard UPS) not in the normal kernel of a SERVER?

    New kernel equals new/newer drivers. That is why people use newer kernels. We don't control the kernel so we can't answer why the driver isn't in the normal kernel. It isn't a problem using the backports kernel. I use it on all of my systems.

  • Did not want to blame any of you developers ... but a standard APC-Driver ... so far it works!

  • Hi,

    I am really new here.

    I recently installed OMV and I own APC Back-UPS BX1100ci-ms. I had similar issues with mipi. I did his suggested solution and it solved my problem.

    Thank you guys for this awesome piece of software.

    Regards!
