    The network speed is quite good at around 100MB/s. I used the driver from Realtek although it does not say it is for 4.x kernel. The driver I'm using is:
    r8168-8.042.00

    (LINUX driver for kernel 3.x and 2.6.x and 2.4.x)


    Only issue is that you cannot use mixed RAM sticks (freq and voltages must match)

  • Thanks for the info. I had the little sister (Asrock N3150-ITX) for my Xpenology (Synology DSM on PC-hardware) and worked great. This was a good combination but too weak for transcoding with PlexMediaServer.
    Therefore my question: Do you use PlexMediaServer and is this cpu strong enough for transcoding (not streaming to any client)?

    So it sounds the J3710 should work?

  • Ok, thanks for the info. The N3150 is definitly too weak for transcoding. I only wanted to know if the J3710 is ok in the meantime I changed my setup and use an Intel i5 (see sig.) and this one plays with transcoding. Before I was also thinking to buy the Asrock J3710-ITX but than I dismissed this idea. I was not sure if this board is strong enough.

    I would say this is more on the OS issue, I own HP N54L, the CPU should be capable to transcode 720p video, but it's lagging when I use Xpenology. After moving to OMV/FreeNAS, the issue was gone. My understanding that your CPU should be able to transcode 1 x 1080p video under Plex.

  • I'm currently testing a Synology DS916+ which has the J3710 CPU. It can run Plex no problems, including simple transcoding.


    Hoping to run the Synology until OMV3 is on RELEASE and then I can use the Synology to run the CCTV.

    About to move to OMV 3.0, running Sonarr, Emby, NZBGet on a Pentium G4520 on an AsRock B150M Pro4S and 16GB DDR4 in a Lian-Li PC-M25A case.
    Sub 10W idle power draw, thanks to SuperFlower 350W 80Plus Gold PSU.

  • Anyone else having issues with the newest kernel (4.9+79~bpo8+1)?
    I started to get a lot messages in syslog about my OS drive found device INTEL_SSD.... Like 5 times in one second quite randomly. Thought the OS drive was broken or corrupted so did a fresh install. That worked until apt-get upgrade that installed the newest kernel. I think the the new kernel might actually corrupt the OS drive as it is giving these weird entries in syslog and sometimes booting hanged.
    I also had issues with a plugin (VDR) so decided to go back to OMV2. This left me stuck with crappy network speed of ~20MB/s. Ordered a TP-Link TG-3468, should be good price/performance.
