The plugin is locked to major versions. So you have to use 5.0. phpvirtualbox is the same way. There hasn't been a version of phpvirtualbox released for virtualbox 5.1.

Is there a reason you need virtualbox-5.1?

  • Not really, I just like to get the latest versions and wanted to know if it was feasible, since I could not get myself.

I updated the phpvirtualbox package to allow use of virtualbox 5.1. Give that a shot.

  • Thanks, but it does not work, because i use official package from Oracle, and virtualbox deb file name is virtualbox-5.0 for 5.0 and virtualbox-5.1 for 5.1 version.

Sorry, we decided to support the package included in the Debian Jessie repos for numerous reasons. You could try 5.1.4 from debian sid. No idea if it works though. Try at your own risk.
