Web GUI- idea ?

  • After using LAN Speed Test (lite) I could see what was annoying. Write speeds are fine Read Speed is awful. S,M,A,R.T monitoring is in OMV and may report this But I could not tell with all the Text.

Maybe a Tab for Disk health and Server LAN speed ?
That shows good or bad in some kinda clear graph
    Thanks

  • OMV 3.x has a Status column in SMART -> Devices that shows you if the drive is good or bad..

You are correct. Don't use OMV 2.x much :)

  • Any way to check what the network card is set at ?

OMV 3, still says Beta, Hum I guess I will try it
    Thanks
    UpDate:
I am getting to be an expert on installing OMV ( Hum )
    - Do you want to enable WOL [ clicked NO ]
    - Error message
    - after booting and logging into omv3 GUI it says config has changed,, hit save
    - Config error , GUI is locked up
    - Reinstalling again ( hum )

  • Install the backports kernel. There is a button to do that in omv-extras.

  • A little better
I did a laptop->desktop test and got 90Mps both ways
    I also: apt-get -t wheezy-backports install firmware-realtek and reboot
This is the system I installed on
This is driving me up the wall,ARGH,, O well,,, Thanks for the help

  • Realtek network adapters suck. I recommend getting an Intel adapter.

  • Don't waste your time. Upgrading to OMV 3.x and using the 4.7 backports kernel (much newer) is a better idea if you don't want to buy an intel network adapter.

  • Yes, Rebooted
    [ desk-chair was bad joke ] sorry
You mentioned getting a Intel NIC,, would this work ?
Thanks for your patience with my questions

Does OMV or Linux have some issue with realtek NIC's
    Realtek NIC's seem very common

  • Yes, that NIC would work very well.

Does OMV or Linux have some issue with realtek NIC's

Linux. Nothing we can do to fix this other than recommend a good NIC.

    Realtek NIC's seem very common

Yes, they are. But common on motherboards/systems intended to have Windows installed on them. Most server and higher priced motherboards have Intel or Broadcom NICs on them.
