Upgrade OMV 3 kernel linux 4.x backport image

  • I just installed openmediavault 3.0.36 amd64 on an SSD and 3HD configured as RAID5, everything works fine. I need to enable WiFi on motherboard and I need the 4.6 kernel on this Debian backport. Already tested with Debian Jessie installation and it works fine, I can also do it with OMV?

Install omv-extras and there is a button on the Repo tab to install the 4.7 kernel from backports (the 4.6 kernel was replaced). I use this kernel on all of my systems.

    What hardware?

That is setup in the network -> interfaces tab. No plugin needed. Just click Add.

  • Sorry another problems :(

I reconfigured the network on OVM server from WebGUI and now the wireless card is not activated when I start the server.
In my manual configuration instead everything was ok.
The difference between my manual configuration and the OWM is the lack in the file /etc/network/interfaces of this line:

    wpa-driver wext command
    wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

    How can I do?

Sorry, I have only used wifi once on OMV and that was on an RPi3 for a test. Wifi is usually a bad idea for a server/NAS.

  • OK,
but would be sufficient that in Network > Interfaces selecting "wlan0" then Modify and in box "Advanced Settings" next input box "Option" there was another input box, for example "Other Command", in which to write command append to.

    It's possible?
Otherwise, how can I do it?

    Try this:

    nano /usr/share/openmediavault/mkconf/interfaces.d/41wireless2

    Add these lines:

    ctrl-o to save
    ctrl-x to exit

This will survive upgrades and let you change network settings in the web interface without losing the extra options you want.
