Share Optical drive in OMV to all network computers?

  • I have an optical drive in the OMV box 2.2.13 I made for my friend.
He is looking to have the Optical drive "available" to all network users
since they have some old optical storage backups that they may want to
access infrequently, and most of the Client computers do not have
Optical drives is there a setting or an easy way for a dumb old windows
    user to do this?

    Just iInstall OMV 3.x.

    omv 7.0.5-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.1.4 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.4

omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github - changelogs

Please try ctrl-shift-R and read this before posting a question.

  • I only see one issue with this, even in OMV 3.

you can only share the drive when CD is in it.

so for OP needs is a bit convoluted as each time you need to change CD, you have to undo the share in WebUI if you already did a share before , insert swap a CD into drive
and than redo the share again.

is there a way to share the drive that would expose any media inserted as a share?

    omv 3.0.56 erasmus | 64 bit | 4.7 backport kernel
    SM-SC846(24 bay)| H8DME-2 |2x AMD Opteron Hex Core 2431 @ 2.4Ghz |49GB RAM
PSU: Silencer 760 Watt ATX Power Supply
    IPMI |3xSAT2-MV8 PCI-X |4 NIC : 2x Realteck + 1 Intel Pro Dual port PCI-e card
    OS on 2×120 SSD in RAID-1 |
    DATA: 3x3T| 4x2T | 2x1T

Not with the current system. I guess you could use a cdrom automount script and bind mount the cdrom mount point to a shared folder.

  • well I guess for OP it either go through all the steps each time you change the CD
write a script to do it for him
or rip the data onto storage and share the folder.

    Best idea for 2.2.13
