Recover Backup from Plugin OMV-Backup

  • Hello,

as you can read in this thread my system crashed: OMV broken after installing updates

But i have another quenstion here: I did a backup with omv-backup and stored it on my data-raid, not on the system-drive (usb).

How can i now recover from this backup? I searched a lot but cant find a any hint - in most theads recovering with clonezilla is recommend, but clonezilla needs an imagefile to recover from, doesnt it?

    Thanks for your help

    Alexander

  • hmmm it is not so easy, i think the backup from the omv-backup is a clon from the systemHDD. you can use it instead the installed system.
sorry i dont have a solution for the situation

so does that mean i just have to copy the files from the backup-folder to the usb-stick and overwrite the old files? this sounds a bit too easy

Yep. I would use rsync instead of copy though.

  • Question here coz I have no other HDD to test this.
After installing clean instance of OMV, when I rsync all files from backup I will get same state as on dead OS?

    No config,userdata,services loss after recovery?

It is restoring what you backed up. So, it should be the same.

No. The master boot record/grub setup is not written to the backup disk and the files are not in the root directory.
