Virtualbox 5.1.8 and kernel 4.9 error

    • Offizieller Beitrag

Can this be fixed??? Or does anyone have any ideas of how to fix it???

Submit a bug report to the phpvirtualbox developer - https://sourceforge.net/projects/phpvirtualbox/ Until you hear something from him, I would just keep the line commented out. It is just for display purposes anyway.

There is no phpvirtualbox 5.1. So, 5.0-5 is our only choice and it is just a warning.

  • Hey,

I'm using Centos 7 in VB, and I installed Virtualbox guess add-ons, and set Mouse layout to USB Mouse/USB tablet, but I have the two mouse pointers.

  • Hello ryecoaaron,

I'm still on kernel 4.8 because I don't want to stop VirtualBox from working.
"VBoxManage -version" tells me that I am still on "5.1.8_Debianr111374".
I have activated "OMV-Extras.org" and "OMV-Extras.org Testing" in the OMV-Extras tab.
The plugins tab tells me that I have "openmediavault-virtualbox 3.0.7" installed on my system.

You have mentioned that these packages are in the omv-extra repo now.
How can I get this version? Do I have to update to kernel 4.9 first before being able to get the updates of virtualbox?

    thanks in advance
    bash0r

First of all, if you get an error when posting, don't retry 10 times... It is the spam filter causing this.

If you click the update button in the plugins or updates tab, your system should be able to install those packages. apt-cache policy virtualbox

Sorry for that! I always got an exception when trying to send my post.

I cannot see this update after checking for updates. But as I mentioned I am still on backports kernel 4.8.
Am I only able to update to 5.1.14 after updating to backports kernel 4.9?

This is the output of apt-cache policy virtualbox

    Thanks,

after manually updating to virtualbox 5.1.14 it is still going to work after installing backports kernel 4.9 ?

The vbox module will have to be re-compiled.

Okay, I update to bpo 4.9 and then? What do I have to do? Please tell me

After you install the new kernel and reboot:
    apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
    apt-get install --reinstall virtualbox-dkms

  • Hello @ryecoaaron or anybody ?

Sorry to jump again on this topic but I am a bit lost and need some help here.

I just did a fresh install of OMV3 and I need virtualbox up and running. Don't care about changing kerner or whatever but I don't get what needs to be done.

Can someone tell me exactly what to do?

I installed virtualbox from the "omv-extras" official repository.

    This does not work either:

No offense but how many times are you going to post about this? Once is enough and I responded to your new thread.

  • Hello,

is it possible to build a newer version of Virtualbox? Virtualbox 5.2.4 is now out and PhpVirtualbox is also getting updated to work with 5.2 in the Github repository:

    https://github.com/phpvirtualbox/phpvirtualbox

Aside from that, the plugin has some serious problems if VM's are stopped and started for a few times leading to crashes aborting all VboxHeadless processes (and by that, all VM's at once):

    Code
    [1461860.435092] EventHandler[6950]: segfault at 7f5b00000032 ip 00007f5bb08718ac sp 00007f5ba9268cc0 error 4 in VBoxXPCOM.so[7f5bb081a000+ff000]

I did not have these crashes with the official Virtualbox packages for Debian in the past. Now that Debian abandoned Virtualbox anyway, wouldn't it be better to use the official ones again?
