ERROR on SMART/DEVICES section

  • I have about 20 drives. I have activated SMART for many drives.

    When I open the SMART/DEVICES section the system returns a "COMMUNICATION FAILURE" after about 20/25 seconds.

    I guess that having too many drives to interrogate we reach a TIMEOUT situation.

    Otherwhise, feel free to give me your opinion on how to resolve the situation.

  • Hi;

    After a re-installation; I have the same error.

    my 1st installation
    I made the RAID, LUKS, LVM, and formatted all drive via the debian-install
    and the SMART/DEVICE was showing my 4 devices.

    on the second installation
    I just reformat the partition
    and the SMART/DEVICE give me a COMMUNICATION FAILURE
    but smartd and smartctl work on CLI

    @GiuseppeChillemi did you're drives was already formated or you did it with OMV ?

    doh! I forgot to mention I use OMV4

    Edited once, last by jodumont: forgot to mention the OMV version ().

  • I have just formatted them in OMV3.x
    Also I do no use SMART monitoring anymore as with 20+ DRIVES it seems that multiple long error/timeouts cause MDADM to kick the drive.
    (It is just a theory, must be confirmed)
