I wanted to share some Pictures of my new Desktop Computer alltough it hasn't much to do with a NAS it is a really small case (Bitfenix Prodigy M) where the old Prodigy may be a good NAS Case for some people.
I'm still using the boxed cooler on the CPU but it will be replaced hopefully soon how did I already replace the GPU Cooler. This thing is so damn silent. And it was only 35 euros, incl. posting!
Yes, the SSD is just hanging in there!
Specs:
Intel Core i7-4770K, 4x 3.50GHz, boxed - Already delided (alltough I need to switch thermal paste again because delidding alone did not bring anything temprature talking)
G.Skill RipJawsX DIMM 8GB, DDR3-1600, CL9-9-9-24 - I'm aware that I'm running Single Channel atm. Second 8GB are already planned.
ASUS Z87M-Plus (C2)
BitFenix Prodigy M Black
EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti, 2GB GDDR5 - Had this before, just changed the cooler on it.
Samsung 830 SSD 256GB - Had this before, too.
1xWD Red 3TB - This was my cold spare I had lying around. Had to replace my old desktop HDD because it was getting damaged sectors.
PSU - BeQuiet - Don't know how much Watts atm.

What does "slow internet" means to you?
"Slow Internet" reminds me of 64 kB/s ISDN-speed *dial_in_tone*
I think David was born to late for that Solo.  He will have wifi only for the next week or so, maybe only wireless g.
Suuuuuure - David is a bit older than me. I know what 64 kB/s. So it is possible that he knows that also
64kbit isdn? guys i started with 56k analog dial in!
Slow internet means i only have my mobile phone with LTE connection. but only 1gb traffic for the month.
Don,t wanted to tell the whole forum why i'm away.

I started with a 2400 baud modem...

Zitat von "ryecoaaron"I saved program to cassette
me too
my first computer was a sinclair zx-spectrum (bought in 1983!)
When I was a child I "surfed" with german BTX
weird trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBfvIh2K4G0
My first own Computer was a Commodore C128-D, then Amiga 500 ...
oooh... this music. very strange trailer^^
really a great commercial
this in germany https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bildschirmtext
this in france https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minitel
and this in italy https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Videotel at the time it was waaaay too expensive for me
i started in the late '80s with a 2400 baud modem and fidonet... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FidoNet
my computers:
-zx-spectrum
-commodore 128 (cassette, without the "expensive" floppy 5 1/4" with the CP/M os :D) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CP/M
-amiga 500
-and in the early '90s my first pc (self build, it was an amd 386-dx 40Mhz with a conner 20Mb HD... yes, megabytes not gigabytes :D)
OMG, this thread is bring back memories! I first leard computing on things like the Comadore PET, Vic 20, Comadore 64, Apple II+, Etc. Abuddy of mine, his dad buight a Timex Sinclar computer and we used it for a Science Fair project. I even had a car battery sitting under the table to keep the thing running over night when they killed all the power so we didn't have to be there in the morning to load the program from cassette tape! My first modem was a 9600 that I used for Compuserve and to log onto BBS's. Ah, the good old days when we used to write basic programs to crash the PET's and drive the teachers nuts!
Just some Updates for the power consumption of my new Desktop PC (May give some people an idea about power usage of a new system build upon on haswell).
Turned off: 1.4 Watts
Booting: 55 - 72 - 81,5 - 82,5 - 86,2 - 98,8 - 100,4 - 120,1 Watts and then drop to 95,3 and ~52-55 Watts.
Idle: ~ 53 Watts
Full GPU Load: 183 - 216,5 Watts, depending on used Benchmark (GPU on its TDP Limit or at 101%).
Full GPU + Full CPU Load: (210-216 Watts from GPU included) 247,5 Watts.
Full CPU Load: 107,8 Watts (!)

Just updated my post processing scripts for Sab/Sickbeard. Since I had to rewrite them I now have implemented a filter for stereo movies. (Since they can't be filtered before downloading.)
Due to the rewrite only movies (filme) has comments in the script, however its german only atm:
https://github.com/davidh2k/postprocessingscripts
Also, here is my "pisync" script with its current state:
https://github.com/davidh2k/pisync
As allways, the scripts do what they supposed to, but I'm allways welcome for improvements.
Greetings
David
