I found the API reference but no guide on how to make a simple plugin. My project is something simple. A sticky note server. I want to save sticky notes on OMV so that I can access them on my PC, tablet, phone or TV. Should I just go about it using nginx + php. But then I can't take advantage of OMV's web interface.
Where can I find a plugin developers guide?

Works for 4.0 also. Doesn't work with 2.0 or bellow as the backend in that time did not have datamodels

This guide doesn't have any of the updates for saltstack is that is needed for OMV 5.x. Start a new thread with any questions about that.
