NTFS Support

  • Hi all,

I have been using urbackup for a few months now with OMV5 and all is workinggreat.

My setup is my windows 10 ntfs files are backed up via urbackup onto my ext4 OMV drive.

I now want to move all of my media files (ntfs) onto an ext4 drive using plex container to run as a media server over my OMV5 linux computer.

Just to recap my understanding, there is no issue copying a media (or any file) using file explorer from the ext4 system to my windows ntfs system and running it from windows laptop/ntfs system (say when I go on holidays)?

Any vice versa, should I want to copy a file on my windows laptop /ntfs system, I can just copy that file using file explorer from windows laptop/ntfs file system to the OMV ext4 computer/file system?

    Many thanks

    No

No, but I did experience an issue early on when transferring a film with a long title, the film folder would get truncated to the old dos eight character, bit frustrating, adding mangled names=no to the extra options in smb/cifs solved it.

  • thanks for clarification - so what is the simplest way to move files to/from ext4 (omv) to windows (ntfs)?

Just use windows file explorer, you're copying from the SMB share on your server to your laptop, don't confuse yourself with file systems, it just works :)

OK I think when you replied to my initial post and you said No, i took that as No to my answer which meant it doesnt work. But I think you mean there are no issues with using file explorer to move files between the 2 systems.
