NAS continues to wake up via WOL for unknown reasons - how to troubleshoot?

  • Hi all,

I use Autoshutdown to shutdown my NAS which works fine so far.
WOL is activated which works fine when sending a ping to wake it up.

However what bothers me is that the NAS wakes like a dozens time a day for reasons I could not identify.
I have switched of cronjobs, antivirus, smart scanning etc.

I searched the sys logs but I'm not able to determine the right lines which identify the reasons for the system to wake up.

Most probably it is related to SMB or AFS?

ANy ideas are much appreciated, thanks!

  • Hi revq,

have you an internet router inside your network? Please check the configuration from the router!
Over the internet comes some portscanns! And when the port 9 is open in the router, your NAS is going on every time!
I have this problem when i have not the right configuartion in my fritzbox!

A wake on lan comes only if you call it with mac address and port9 (a5:c6: ....: 9)
Not via SMB or AFS access

  • WOL is activated which works fine when sending a ping to wake it up.

Check your BIOS settings which events are allowed to wake up the PC besides WOL.
