Raspberry pi no space left on device

  • I was trying to install lyche on my raspberry pi, but I got this message :
"failed to register layer: Error processing tar file(exit status 1): write /usr/libexec/git-core/mergetools/codecompare: no space left on device".
This is the message about my system that I get when I log in:

Welcome to ARMBIAN 5.46 experimental Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) 4.14.98-v7+
    System load: 0.38 0.18 0.17 Up time: 2 days
    Memory usage: 34 % of 976MB Swap usage: 39 % of 488Mb
    CPU temp: 48°C
    Usage of /: 100% of 7.2G storage/: 1% of 5.5T

Any advice about what to do?
    Thanks in advance.

  • What do you do when a chest of drawers is full?

You tidy it up. Throw away junk. Or get a bigger chest of drawers.

Exactly the same here. You have filled the sd card with stuff that doesn belong there. Except in this case it is possible that you filled the sd card without realizing that you did it. And you may have difficulties in figuring out what belongs and what does not.

There are many threads here and elsewhere about the causes and how to fix this.

Likely culprits are failed mounts of external drives and media players with databases full of metadata. If it is a very old install perhaps also old kernels.

Do a google search for "full omv root filesystem" or "omv system disk full" something similar for more details.

Be smart - be lazy. Clone your rootfs.
