How to create a print Server in OMV

- OMV 4.x

Install Openmediavault extras, then install the CUPS plugin.

I would use cups in docker instead of the plugin. The plugin is not maintained and has issues.

There is some guide that explain how do that? i used only two times docker, and only to play.
I can't undesrstand how setup network port forwarding on dockerized cups plugin. -
You could try to play with this: https://hub.docker.com/r/olbat/cupsd, you can run the CUPS server by typing that string through ssh or on the machine directly. Then there are username and password to add printers or change other settings.

duffr I connected to my OMV 5 (5.4.2-1 (Usul)) via ssh as root. Run this command:
I get the error I wrote about, and cups container appears in the portainer and running. But have no way to connect it by http://127.0.0.1:631 or my_server:631.

Have you tried after cleaning browser cache? Or maybe using another browser...
However, I recollected when been installing (I did as you) and simply not caring about that message. I could, back then connect to server's_ip:631.
Probably that error has to do with my problem as well. I'll investigate, with no haste, because actually my printer has a network card...

Actually I can acces via my local IP adress 192.168.0.40:631 and not by http://127.0.0.1:631, is this a problem?
Also, I get an error ""Unable to locate printer "BRWFC017C509582.local"."
How could i get this fixed?
Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I'm running olbat/cupsd printserver on portainer with USB HP LaserJet P215 printer.
Everything works fine until I turn off my printer (using it not very often), after that I must restart the oblat/cupsd because it don't recognizes new USB port number (it changes always after replug USB or printer restart). Is there any solution to workaroud this problem? mayby different printserver or simple USB port reservation for device
I also running SANE with CANON i-sens MF4730 (also USB) and there is no such problem. What is the difference in accesing the USB port on this two apps?
BTW. did anyone successfully run USB CANON i-sens MF4730 printer on cups, i can't find proper drivers.

Maybe an udev rule that restarts the container when the printer comes online.
You have to do this from CLI. There is no such functionality in OMV AFAIK.

I have tried multiple Docker CUPs images and after starting it up and adding printers, no device on the network can see the shared printers. Also, there is no persistency on the docker images and I loose all my settings and added printers on reboots, recreates, etc.
How can I get CUPs working on OMV?

try create dockers in host mode.

try create dockers in host mode.
Tried that, tried host with privileged mode as well.
So far now after 3 hours more tonight working with it, I finally got the server itself to see the printers, but no computer (Mac, Windows, Linux) on the network or Android/iOS device can find the printers; I even tried forcing the print search to the server IP/IP:PORT and got nothing....

I've just tried the olbat docker on my VM and it installs and works as expected, whilst my printer is wireless anyway it actually detects it.

I can add printers to the docker, but they are not broadcasted or accessible by any device on the network. I read somewhere that there might need to be SMB configuration for the printers to appear, but I can't find the options to configure that.
