Is it safe to install NextCloud?

I am a beginner. I want to install nextcloud on my OMV to do IOS photo backups automatically. However I have heard and read about the nextcry ransomware thats been affecting nextcould servers. Is it safe to install nextcloud?

I definitely wouldn't install it directly on your system. And while docker isn't absolute security, I think it could be done correctly. If you backup your nextcloud container's volumes and keep multiple copies, I think you would be ok. If you are really worried, don't expose your nextcloud instance to the internet.

If you really just want photo backup, I use photosync that syncs to my OMV server using sftp while on my own wireless.
