Deleted Data Disk OMV5

  • Hi,From

I have installed 3nd. harddrive. Then from web interface Storage/Disks, I pressed wipe button on 3nd. drive. It did not work. When I checked my data disk, it was empty. I removed 3nd. harddrive and rebooted system. It is still empty. How Can I retrieve my files?

  • I fear your data is lost because the partition table is erased.

P.S.: I am currently implementing this dialog in OMV6 and testing it on OMV5 and I can not see any problems here. I think you simple have chosen the incorrect device. I hope you have a backup to restore your data. Keep in mind that device files may change when you install new harddisks. A /dev/sdb may be a /dev/sdc after that and the new one might be /dev/sdb.

Only a modest question: Is it really possible to wipe a drive which is currently in use (referenced)? I have never tested this.
If that is really the case, is there no way to prevent it?

  • I could test it, I have a laptop testing OMV5 on it.

    Thank you for testing

But in this case I didn´t understand what has affected @uaytac´s data drive ?(

TBH neither did I as fdisk shows just two drives and if there was data on it one would assume it was referenced, when I tried my own whilst it tried it came back as device busy so it threw an error.

Raid is not a backup! Would you go skydiving without a parachute?
