some questions about upcomming Helios64

  • I have reed about a new nas Hardware from kobol.io https://blog.kobol.io/2020/01/02/helios64-annoucement/
and i have some questions to all the experts.
Will omv Support this Hardware? And how much Performance is it? I have now idee about the Performance from ARM CPU. It would be nice somebody can say it likes a CPU like a Intel.... or so. ;)

    omv 5.x | 64 bit | omvextrasorg 5.x | kernel 5.4
    used plugins: omv-extras | portainer | rsnapshot | antivirus
    used container: portainer/portainer | linuxserver/nextcloud | linuxserver/letsencrypt | linuxserver/mariadb | jellyfin/jellyfin | doliana/logitech-media-server | v2tec/watchtower | instrumentisto/coturn

  • OMV will most likely work fine on Helios64. No reason to suspect otherwise.

Performance will be very good. As a NAS. Perhaps almost as good as a RPi4 with a 16TB drive in a powered USB enclosure. Or better. Most likely comparable. Sharing files over a GbE LAN at home.

But if you expect to use it for Duplicati backups, use it for many clients, do Plex 4K transcoding to multiple clients, run VMs with desktop environments, then I expect that you'll be disappointed.

Be smart - be lazy. Clone your rootfs.
    OMV 5: 9 x Odroid HC2 + 1 x Odroid HC1 + 1 x Raspberry Pi 4

The storage performance should be better on the Helios64 than an RPi4 since the sata ports are connected directly to the cpu rather than sharing a usb3 bus. cpu intensive performance is probably better on the RPi4. For CPU tasks, there are probably Rock Pi 4 vs RPi4 comparisons out there.
