ssh pka connection failed if password auth is disabled

  • EDIT after resolution : system installed on external usb hdd

    Hello omv world,

How to avoid password authentication for a single user when pka is set up ?
What I do in web gui :

    • create a user and add it in ssh group, shell is /bin/sh
    • copy/paste my rsa pub key
    • disable root auth and password auth
    • connect to omv via ssh > failed (pubkey)
    • enable password auth, connect via ssh > ok, user password is asked and I can su to root

    Thanks,

    Christophe

Can not reproduce that on an origin Debian 10.

    Code
    # cat /var/log/auth.log | grep votdev
    Jan 21 13:19:18 omv5box sshd[7504]: Accepted publickey for votdev from 192.x.x.x port 50870 ssh2: RSA SHA256:xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    Jan 21 13:19:18 omv5box sshd[7504]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for user votdev by (uid=0)
  • Thanks for fast answer ;)
When I disable password auth in web-gui :

    Code
    cat /var/log/auth.log
Authentication refused: bad ownership or modes for directory /

I didn't touch permissions on any folder/file, server is as new.
Will try to create a new key

  • No, acer ac100, one 2.5" external hdd for omv
EDIT : forgot to mention, root pka works with "allow root auth" enable and "password auth" disable"
    My omv version : 5.4.0-0.bpo.2-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.4.8-1~bpo10+1 (2020-01-07) x86_64
