Setting a folder for Plex Media Server - public or private

Hi everyone,
Because of permission issues I deleted two shared folders. One of them was Plex's media folder.
So, I need to create a new one and put my media files in there.
I want to do things right this time though.
I was wondering if it is better to create a public folder in order to let Plex access them without any permission issue, or if it better to
create a private one (to which just one user can get access and copy-paste files in there) for sicurity issues. You know, I'm worrying about if someone can get access to my pc through a public folder by esploiting some Plex's vulnerabilities (the media server and its app)
Could you please give me any advice about that?
