Remove sudo-user which is required by Armbian-Install?

  • Hi Forum,

I installed OMV 5 on my Odroid-HC2 following this Guide:

    https://github.com/OpenMediaVa…lling_OMV5_on_Armbian.pdf

After installing Armbian (Buster minimal) at the first logon you are asked to change root password and add another sudo-user.

So I added a user named "odroid".

Now after having installed OMV there is as user as well as a group named "odroid".

( which is in the following groups: odroid, tty, disk, dialout, sudo, audio, video, plugdev, games, users, systemd-journal, input, netdev, ssh)

I don't need (want) this user in omv.

But I learned, that it's safer to disable ssh-login for root and instead create another user for ssh-login.

Is it possible to remove this user/group from OMV?

Or have I made a mistake from the beginning by creating this user with this name?

    Thanks,

    Ralf

Did you try? Yes, it is possible.

I would have used a name more specific to yourself but there is no mistake. There is no need to use root if you have a user with sudo privileges.

So granting sudo privileges to e.g. me/myself (existing user in omv) and afterwards deleting the old sudo user "odroid" would be the way to go?

"Deleting" (in the sense of hiding) the old sudo user from the odroid omv gui only is not possible. Right?

    Yes

No, you can actually delete (not hide) it using the User tab in the web interface.
