So I tried to create a shared folder on my local system, to no avail. OMV shows a shared folder, but /sharedfolders/ is empty. What the heck?

Hi,
dont know if this is normal but i also dont have anything in the /sharedfolders. To acces my HDD´s i use the /srv folder.
Of course, i also use sharefolders.
-
The creation of shares in the /sharedfolders directory is deprecated. The actual share will still be functional though.
-
depreciated by omv or debian? why? ...nvm, following link. coffinbearer deleted post. This is the link I'm refering to: Sharedfolders
-
Deprecated by OMV. The reason being that having those directories available to users is the root cause of many problems in the past.
If you want the old behavior restored, follow the directions in this post, but change NO to YES
RE: Applying configurations in the web-interface takes forever

Welp, that really throws a monkey wrench in tutorials out there. Stinks, but I'll figure it out. TechnoDadLife I assume you are aware of this already?
-
I moved this conversation over to this thread: Sharedfolders I know a lot of other beginners are going to be thrown off by this too, as OMV does not warn you of this at all.

Read the changelogs.

Using /sharedfolders/ path in dockers caused a lot of issues. Therefore it has been suggested for t long time to use /srv/dev-disk... path instead.

Sorry, I meant in the Web Interface. ...Right now I can go in and create a "shared folder" without any indication that the folder is, in fact, not actually being created.
-
Of course the folder is created on the data drive.
You will just find no link in the folder /sharedfolders/ on the OS drive.
-
Where is is then? ...Still being new to Linux, I am not tracking at all.
-
The shared foder is on your data drive. And the data drive is mounted in /srv/
So the path is something like
/srv/dev-disk-by-label-xxxx/folder

-
if you do an upgrade, will your shared folders move to this new format?
-
Not sure what you mean.
Shared folders have always been created on the data drives with the path /srv/dev-disk-by...../SharedFolderName
There was just an additional "shortcut" by making the shared folders available in /sharedfolders/. This feature has now been removed on a default installation and can be manually activated agein.

What i mean is will the additional shortcut be removed when you do an upgrade from OMV4 to OMV5?

Maybe, maybe not. But you can verify this for yourself and restore the capability yourself if you want it.
