Many plugins are not maintained any more. It is suggested to use docker instead.
how ? .... i hate dockers ..... really .
but i will consider your reply , and read carrefully your link
But , macom , you re never sleep ?
Did when you were dealing with swap issues
i hate dockers
You mentioned before that you used Solaris. Did you not like Solaris zones either? They are very similar.
yep , i know very well the solaris zones (named containers in france ! ) , i was "rent" as an expert (lol ) by solaris company ...
and i ve consolidated many physical hardware , in zones , .... and in manual cluster (like zoneadm detach , zoneadm attach ... , ...... (not the solaris cluster , i m certified too on it ) , and capping the hardware ...
that was a funny period !
then if you say dockers is very similar , i MUST look again (maybe , i can use my quad xeon 40 core for it ! lol )
but .... almost 10 years ago !
now , i m a noob on linux !
hi ,
ive take a look , more seriously to docker .
a BIG problem for me , it s only offering "herited" virtualisation from main os ....
and i would like , to put linux on my hardware , bet have somes win10/7 (bwerk ) environnements , and linux ( in many distros )
yep , i had take a look on proxmox ....
i will install it inf fews days , but i ve not enough time to do , all what i want !! :-/
i definitly need an other / better brain !
or need to fork myself
well wow, it has changed a lot !! very impressive !!!!!
i m downloading the latest version .... the installation is .... on the run queue !! lol
hi (off topic sorry )
i ve disapeard somes days ... worked hard , alls days and night theses last day , proxmox is impressive !
i will build a proxmox cluster , i m waiting the delivry , based on 8 xeons octo core dual thread , with 256gb ram .
internal "heartbeat" will be on gigabit eth , or better on infiniband ....
then ... i must follow the proxmox forum too ! local smal storage sas on each node (about 1to )
and a nas acces .... Mediavault is sufficient for me !
should be enough ! lol
Wow, impressive. So you won't get bored soon.
Have fun
i have fun with kodi /librelec , with openmediavault ( most simple than frenas/opennas ) , with proxmox ....
the open source wold is ...the universe
i ve 45 years olds, and i "love" my job , unix world , with 25 years in this world .
every day that passes, I learn things, and everyone brings me. Every day that passes, I try to explain what little I know. It's magical!
then i will take many fun , @home , .... and @work !
i ll really lucky ! i will never get bored !
Than you might want to do it the other way around. Install proxmox and run OMV, windows and other linux distros as virtual machines on proxmox.
Hi macom, hope this thread is still active! just like guillaume2014 I don't like the docker option and I already run OMV on V-Box but do want to use plugin to search and download torrents. I don't see it practical to run docker on the virtual guest. Is there still a way to install and run direct plugin for OMV? I have the following setup:
Thanks!

Why?

You can install omv-extras and you will have lots of additional plugins. But I think none is for Torrents.
Why? - Honestly, don't want to run docker on VM guest. If anything goes bad it will be hard to get out of the rabbit hole for me anyway. For instance I ran into an issue with the VBox snapshot growing out of proportion for the Win10 guest which is running the surveillance server, which is using a 4TB HDD in pass-through to store camera footage. So, if I run docker on the VM OMV with the pass-through to 4 x 4TB physical drives and something will go off I will be into some unnecessary work. Unfortunately too busy with the work everyday and don't have time to experiment. My Idea with VM was to keep everything simple and if anything goes wrong simply reinstall the affected VM backup. I assembled the server and did experiment first with different scenarios of failure before moving my data in permanently so I am happy with the current setup .

I came from QNAP originally. I liked a lot the functionality and freedom of OMV platform. I did have OMV in the beginning on the dedicated hardware but had learned that restore is a torture, any way for me that was. I then learnt that in ordered to do a proper back up i would have to stop the server and run the USB tool to create a proper backup of the partition. Then I built the new server which can accommodate for a few VMs and went that way. I might have to create another VM OMV and install docker on it and then mess things up to see how to get everything back, then I might revert to docker way.
Thanks,

Honestly, you're selling yourself short not at least giving docker a try. Torrenting, etc.. is really the type of app where docker excels and is most useful, IMO.
