Unable to get S.M.A.R.T stats using a USB NAS enclosure

  • Hello all,

New to OMV and need some assistance with this issue. I have Qnap TR-004 NAS enclosure connected to a RPi4 with usb 3.0. Raid is disabled and the drives are individual.

I am unable to get stats from S.M.A.R.T on the drives and I have read this seems to be an issue with USB NAS enclosures. I am not sure what steps to take at the moment or if there is alternative I can do.

I want to make sure when I start backing up the drives there is no issues I could replicate.

    Thank you,

  • If memory serves me correctly this is not possible due to the restriction of the USB.

Raid is not a backup! Would you go skydiving without a parachute?

  • If you read the docs for smartctl closely you may find an option to use for your SATA / USB bridge. If you are lucky.

Be smart - be lazy. Clone your rootfs.
