First, thank you to everyone who will attempt to help me. Please be advised I'm a complete newbie. This is my first time doing anything with a Linux base so instructions need to be super simple.
Here's is my issue. I loaded the most recent OMV version and installed it on my system, It boots up fine, and I can get to the login for the root user so I have access to omv-firstaid (using a tv as a monitor). But my router doesn't see the device and logging in to the IP address I gave it does nothing but tell me that the "site can't be reached".
It's also says that the GIU could be reached at an IP address beginning with 172 which is not remotely what my home network is.
I've read and searched every way I can think of but I'm throwing up my hands.
This is what I've done so far. I've reinstalled OMV 4 times.
I then installed OMV 5.05. (I was able to download to a usb some "Debian Information". But I don't remember how I did it. I'll post that below. It did give me the MAC address of the nic.
I then reinstalled the latest OMV.
Logging into root:
-- I've "pinged" the router... "Destination Host Unreachable"
-- omv-firstaid
-- Configured the nic set IPv4, to static address, set the gateway but wasn't sure to set the DNS to so left it blank. Along with this I used the MAC addess (listed in the info I was able to pull) and set a static IP...still nothing.
Got a USB to Ethernet adapter (I wanted to get just a regular nic but I couldn't find one...stupid COVID. This adapter said it would work out of the box with Linux kernal 3.x/2.6.x)
Plugged it in and ran omv-firstaid and set the IP address again and set the changed the MAC on the router to reflect the MAC of the adapert...same results.
I've done a ton of other things, but I'm not getting anywhere, and my brain is fried from trying.
Not to mention countless REBOOTs and restarts...
This is what I build:
AMD Ryzen 3400G
AsRock X570M Mother board
-- the onboard NIC is an Intel Gigabit with a I211-AT chipset...I think this is my issue.
16 Gig Ripjaws 3600 ram
and
an SSD M.2 for the OS
No HD yet as I wanted to get the system up and running first.
My guess is that during install of OMV the motherboard uses the NIC and is able to go to the web and download needed files, but OMV doesn't have the correct kernal (sorry I'm a newb, so I think that is equivalent of a driver in Windows...please don't hate).
I went to Intel's website and they say they have updated drivers for the I211-AT drivers, which I downloaded but I have no idea how to command line update the tar file to OMV. Or even if that's what I'm supposed to do.
I was able to pull this information today, I know the date is wrong.
I hope the stuff below means something to someone, because I have no clue...
