Upgrade from 4.x -> 5.x multiple issues......

  • Hi everybode ..... at first i postet my questions / my trouble here....

    #431 ff.

.... but i think that is not right to ask here, isn´t it?

That´s why i choose to open a seperate thread.

today i tried to upgrade my freshly upgraded OMV 4.x to 5.x with your guidelines - which i followed exactly:

    RE: OMV 5.0 - finally out! :-)

    But there are some mistakes.....

    1. omv-salt deploy run nginx -> omv-salt: command not found

    2. omv-salt deploy run phpfpm -> omv-salt: command not found

    3. apt-get install usrmerge ->

I´ve cleared my browser - cache as discribed.

    I´ve started these two commands:

    - apt autoclean

    - apt autoremove

    - dpkg --configure -a -> without any further results .... the same output.

    - apt -f install -> same

This part of the error message makes me the greatest fearness....

    Code
    .....
    FATAL ERROR:
    Both /bin/upssched-cmd and /usr/bin/upssched-cmd exist.
You can try correcting the errors reported and running again
/usr/lib/convert-usrmerge until it will complete without errors.
Do not install or update other Debian packages until the program
    has been run successfully.
    ......

    What can i do now?

Could you help me, please? *smiling

I tried to login - but the system means, that there is the wrong user name / password?!

    21.06.2020.....

Login in GUI now possible - omv-firstaid changes that

The errors from above are further exist.

    Version info is 4.1.35_1 (Arrakis)

    :-(

  • The problem you are having is moving on to the next command if the previous command fails. Something in the initial upgrade (before the reboot) must have failed. If omv-salt is not available, either /usr/sbin is not in your path or the openmediavault package was uninstalled.

    What is the output of:

    dpkg -l | grep openm

    echo $PATH

    omv 5.5.17-3 usul | 64 bit | 5.4 proxmox kernel | omvextrasorg 5.4.2
omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github

  • Thank you very much for your support. *smiling

I tried to see everything what happens during the upgrade procedure - but of course sometimes i´m not be able to see everything.

Sometimes i had to repeat / correct a command with "apt --configure -a" as the terminal says.....

    dpkg -l | grep openm

    echo $PATH

    Code
    root@server:~# echo $PATH
    /usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin
  • It really looks like you didn't run the upgrade script because you have many plugins still installed that were not ported to OMV 5.x. I would run the upgrade script again and post all of the output.

    omv 5.5.17-3 usul | 64 bit | 5.4 proxmox kernel | omvextrasorg 5.4.2

  • ok ....? But really - i followed your guidelines exactly! Really .....

What steps i can do from your thread RE: OMV 5.0 - finally out! :-) (#38) without any dangerous breaking my system - everything ... complete?

    1st step:

    wget -O - https://github.com/OpenMediaVa…pt/raw/master/upgrade4to5 | sudo bash

    1. Upgrade script.txt

Than i used: dpkg --configure -a

    2. Fortsetzung.Upgrade script.txt

    Reboot is done......

Now i´m waiting for further order from you. *smiling

Thank you very very much for your help. <3

  • I don't know why the script isn't purging the plugins. So, until then, you don't need to do the dpkg --configure -a because it will keep trying to fix the incompatible plugins.

    What is the output of:

    apt-get purge openmediavault-cups openmediavault-dnsmasq openmediavault-docker-gui openmediavault-domoticz \

    openmediavault-duplicati openmediavault-eyefi openmediavault-ldap openmediavault-letsencrypt openmediavault-mysql \

  • I have no idea what is happening with your system but it still isn't removing the packages. What about:

    apt-get purge openmediavault-nginx

    omv 5.5.17-3 usul | 64 bit | 5.4 proxmox kernel | omvextrasorg 5.4.2
omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github

  • 1st ....

The upgrade from 3.x -> 4.1x was everything ok. So it must happen during the upgrade procedure to v5.x

  • The upgrade from 3.x -> 4.1x was everything ok. So it must happen during the upgrade procedure to v5.x

You still have the vdr and mumble plugins installed which were never ported to OMV 4.x. Remove the following:

    apt-get purge openmediavault-cups

    apt-get purge openmediavault-duplicati

    apt-get purge openmediavault-letsencrypt

    apt-get purge openmediavault-mumble

    apt-get purge openmediavault-mysql

    apt-get purge openmediavault-netatalk

    apt-get purge openmediavault-pxe

    apt-get purge openmediavault-remotedesktop

    apt-get purge openmediavault-route

    apt-get purge openmediavault-shellinabox

    apt-get purge openmediavault-syncthing

    apt-get purge openmediavault-urbackup-server

    apt-get purge openmediavault-vdr openmediavault-vdr-extras openmediavault-vdr-vnsiserver

    apt-get purge openmediavault-webdav

    omv 5.5.17-3 usul | 64 bit | 5.4 proxmox kernel | omvextrasorg 5.4.2

  • The first command - the first error:

Every further command - error ... error...

  • The new error is because you have OMV 5.x installed but are trying to uninstall an OMV 4.x plugin. Add the following before you run the apt-get purge commands from the previous step

    touch /usr/sbin/omv-mkconf

Then we the purge commands are done,

    rm /usr/sbin/omv-mkconf

    omv 5.5.17-3 usul | 64 bit | 5.4 proxmox kernel | omvextrasorg 5.4.2

  • The result is - an error.....

I tried only the first two of them .....

    ;(

  • Michelle_Br and ryecoaaron apt purge in the upgrade4to5 script soes not remove the docker-gui plugin. I manually copied the entire line and it will not purge any of those plugins. I had to manually purge the docker-gui one. Would a list then a for loop work better? i know bash script can be a problem from experience.

Is it possible to remove omv first then reinstall but you would have to take notes of your plugins?

    Thanks

  • Would a list then a for loop work better?

I was making those changes now. That is actually how the docker install script and install script already install/remove packages. It is just slower.

Is it possible to remove omv first then reinstall but you would have to take notes of your plugins?

I wouldn't recommend that. If you do, you might as well do a fresh install.
